HISTORY

The Detour that you know and love (or have just discovered) started life as a market stall, in Camden, in the summer of '97. We used to buy a mixture of new and second-hand clothing, footwear and hardware from skaters and distributors with the idea of buy it cheap, pile it high and sell it cheap (how times have changed). Camden had always been a Summer only, Sunday affair but by '99 the stall had become pretty much full-time, travelling around to markets, universites, events and a permanent Saturday pitch in our home city of Bath. It was then that it became blatantly obvious that Bath was crying out for a proper skateshop. There were shops selling skate gear, some of which we'd worked in or been involved with but nowhere doing it properly, by skaters for skaters. The plan was hatched, figures fiddled and October 2000 saw the opening of Bath's first and only skater owned, skater run shop. Like all good skate shops we hooked up a team, orgnised premieres and events, liased with councils and community groups and generally supported the local scene, all of which we still do today. In 2003 we upped sticks to a new location and a bigger store on Broad st. where we currently reside. Today we're as well known for exclusive clothing and footwear (and our gallery space) as we are for skateboard stuff but the original ethos of the market stall still rings true. F*CK THE CHAINSTORES!
